There is no feeling comparable to climbing into the mountains of the Trans Pecos in pursuit of Aoudad (Barbary) Sheep. This hunt is a true test of ones hunting passion and love of the outdoors.
Aoudad sheep hunting requires true grit and physical preparedness, for the mountains and the desert can be a challenge. The Chinati Mountain range we hunt varies in elevation from 4,000 ft - 7,000 ft and it is all 100% great Aoudad country!
Located on the ranch, is a comfortable sheep camp, where our clients and myself call home for 4 ½ days and 5 nights. Comfortable beds, hot shower, and great meals provided out of this camp along with a relaxing campfire at night.
Here is the details of what all is included in the hunt/price:
-4 ½ hunting days
-5 nights lodging
-3 meals a day along with snacks/non alcoholic beverages
-One trophy Aoudad ram (average ram size is 30-33”)
-Game care (skinning/caping of ram on mountain and at camp)
-Ranch transportation during hunt (comfortable 4x4 Toyota Tacoma)
-Calan as your sheep guide
Not included in hunt-
-Travel to/from ranch
We strive for mature (9+ year old sheep) with great chaps and mane. generally our sheep are between 30"-35". The best time to hunt Aoudad is when they are rutting which is in September and October, however, we do take great sheep from January- March as well when rams bachelor up.
In the year 2020, Calan had 100% opportunity rate of getting clients on old, mature, trophy sheep within shooting distance (under 400 yards). Of the 18 sheep taken with Calan in 2020, every sheep was certified to measure gold medal under Trophy Game Records of the World qualifications.
Calan has guided over 100 successful Aoudad sheep hunts and several Gold medal rams. When you are in Aoudad camp, you have the best in the business personally guiding you for a trophy ram.
We recommend a larger caliber rifle on Aoudad because of how tough they are to bring down. Generally, a .300 caliber is a good round to use combined with a 180-200 grain Barnes or Nosler Partition bullet.
Clients flying in should fly into El Paso or Midland, from there you will need to head to Marfa, Tx where Calan will personally meet/greet and then head out to the ranch south of town.
For out of state hunters, you will need to purchase a special 5 day exotic hunting license from Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. Calan can help you obtain your license at your request. Local Tx residents just need their valid Texas Hunting License to hunt.

Free Range Aoudad and Hunter
Similar to our other free range Aoudad hunts out in Presidio County, these Del Rio Aoudad hunts are just as exciting and produce some great quality rams. This particular property is perfect for clients who want the sheep hunting experience without the extreme physical endurance we sometimes encounter out in our other property.
These sheep hunts are conducted out of a 4x4 vehicle for 2 1/2 days and 3 nights lodging (nearby ranch), lots of time spend looking through glass in canyon country covered with juniper trees and loose rocks so bring good glass and sturdy boots! Our company Assistant Manager, Michael Hall, is the primary sheep guide for this property and he is an outstanding professional and guide.
